About Healing and Transformation

Share Your Healing Story

Safe2Heal researches and publishes stories of healing and transformation. We welcome references and direct submissions.

Each story has six components. A person’s Situation at a point of the time. The Background that preceded the situation. The Outcome and the Time it took between the situation and the outcome. The heart of the story is what ideas, practices, modalities and support the person practiced and participated in that changed their conditions from being in pain to being free of pain. The support section calls out people and organizations central to the person’s transformation.

What is healing muscle?

Motion towards wholeness and health

Muscle is soft tissue that produces force and motion. Healing, “to make whole”, is the process of restoring health to a diseased or out of balance organism.  So healing muscle produces force and motion that helps restore health.  To better understand how to exercise and grow this healing muscle let’s consider the “motion” that it produces.

Integrated body mind spirit system

From how healing happens we know healing restores health to our integrated body-mind-spirit system that may be damaged, diseased or otherwise out of balance.  The most effective “motion” depends on which component of our integrated system we’re acting upon.  For example, with the body, to keep it simple, there is a direct relationship between the wellness of the body and the amount of water, exercise, sleep and sugar consumed.  The motion of more water, exercise, sleep and less sugar leads to more balance and improved health.

Meditation calms body and mind

Acting upon our minds is a much trickier and difficult task.  When our minds are agitated and often full of anxiety, fear and anger the stress on our overall system increases.  Calm minds enable our nervous systems to rest and recharge which restores balance.  Meditation practice activates the parasympathetic part of your nervous system that nurtures and balances your well-being and decreases the amount of stress related cortisol produced. Meditation also reduces your respiration and heart rate, increases blood flow in your brain and strengthens your immune system. With spirit it’s a question of being in touch with your inner nature.  Examples include forgiving yourself, loving relationships, time in nature and keeping a journal.

Our habitual selves stand in the way

The biggest obstacle to building healing muscle is the self-discipline to do these things on a daily basis for more than a couple of days.  Our bodies and minds are changing all the time, we can direct what we change into, but it takes time and a minimum of six weeks for positive changes to take hold. Our habitual selves are often hostile to making changes and it’s hard to create space midst the stress and obligations of our everyday lives.

Do you believe you can help yourself heal?

So it comes down to motivation and discipline.  Do you believe you can help your self heal and grow?  Can you muster the discipline and get the support you need to install changes that persist for weeks, months and years?  Do Safe2Heal in 6 Weeks is a guided program designed to help you create safe space in your everyday life to build healing muscle.  Healing muscle is your capacity to act positively on your integrated mind, body and spirit system.

Leigh’s Story from Embracehealingcancer.com

Quote on blame and taking responsibility from Embrace Release Heal: An Empowering Guide to Talking About, Thinking About, and Treating Cancer by Leigh Forston

“I wanted to elaborate, but it was hard to articulate the difference between blaming yourself for what happens and taking responsibility.  Blame indicates that something went seriously wrong and that you have failed.  Blame suggests that you knew better but screwed up big time.  Blame swims in guilt, which generates a destructive path of self-loathing.

Taking responsibility, on the other hand, begins by admitting that we don’t have the answers; indeed, we know very little.  But taking responsibility also consists of going on a journey of discovery.  It accepts that there is a bigger story at play.  It contends that this physical life is the vehicle through which we will discover what we currently don’t know about the bigger part of ourselves.  Perhaps we’ll sense the higher design of our soul.  Maybe we’ll perceive how a past life has feathered into current circumstances.  We may even stumble upon our life’s purpose.  Most of us tap into the God-given power that we all possess inside.

Taking responsibility means accepting that, for whatever reason, the situations we find ourselves in have meaning – meaning that can bring us closer to God, closer to knowing who we really are, and that can ultimately show us how to draw from the source of our own divine intelligence.”

Making Peace with Cancer through Meditation, Diet and Love

S2HStory105: Making Peace with Cancer through Meditation, Diet and Love

S2HStory105: Making Peace with Cancer through Meditation, Diet and Love - CLICK TO MAGNIFY

Woman’s ten year journey from multiple episodes of cancer into spiritual and physical health.

“By loving my cancer, I was learning to love the diseased parts of myself, the parts of me that I had spent years repressing and denying. I decided to perceive the cancer as a gift and focus on transforming, as opposed to “fighting the disease.” It was time to make “peace” with myself and my disease. The cancer had manifested in my life to teach me about my faulty thinking patterns and poor dietary habits. I knew it was time to heal the diseased, negative, and unloving parts of me that I did not want to admit were there. This required me to transcend this disease-and truly heal. I was to fall in love with it and be grateful for this gift.”
